Coverage from your personal auto insurance policy typically extends to the use of rental vehicles within the United States though it is important to verify the details surrounding the coverage and extension to rental cars.
Outside of the U.S., many countries include liability coverage in the price of your rental car—at no additional cost. Your auto insurance will also typically extend when you visit Canada.
Coverage extensions work if the rental period is 30 consecutive days or fewer and the vehicle is used for personal use/as a private passenger car or a utility trailer weighing less than 12,000 pounds. Coverage will also only extend to the rental being operated by the listed drivers in the insurance policy/account. In the event of a loss, the person driving/on the policy is responsible for the deductibles, if applicable, and will always be subject to a claims investigation.
Let’s make sure you’re protected with the right amount of coverage for your car.
